Self-care Is NOT Selfish! Here's Why...

There are many reasons why self-care is important. There are also many reasons why one may feel the need to explain how it is everything except selfish. Biggest reason being, those around you who do not respect your boundaries, do not acquire the mental capacity to understand that until you take care of yourself you are of no good to,not only those around you, but your being and your life's work and goals.

The main point of self care is to allow yourself to become whole again after giving so much of yourself and your energy away into the world. With work, school, parenthood, the everyday exchanges we have with people, this requires a lot of energy from us. Many times we end up with no energy left for ourselves. To do simple things such as sleep, work on something for your business, journal, relax, exercise, read a book, eat, maybe you intended to do your makeup or cook yourself a nice meal. When we give so much of ourselves to others and tasks throughout the day, it can leave us feeling drained, feeling exhausted, tired with low vibrations. When that happens, self care can be as simple as taking a break to just breathe or drink a glass of water, even taking a nice long shower.
Something I want you to understand, is that in order for you to live your everyday life in a positive way, self care needs to be a requirement. You can not pour from an empty cup. If you are not properly tending to yourself, you can not properly tend to those around you, you can not properly take care of any business or tasks that require your energy, because YOU CAN NOT POUR FROM AN EMPTY CUP! This is why self care is important. This is why self care is everything except selfish. If I do what I need to do for myself, I feel good enough and have the energy I need to do for those around me. Part of loving those around me, is loving myself.
So have you drank any water today? Have you done your hair?have you showered? Have you had time for meditation? Have you worked on that project of yours you wanted to get done? Have you done your grocery shopping? If you answered no for any of those questions, make time to do so. It's a form of self care.
With all of my love,
Yanni Jay
